Consultative Workshop on Social Protection and Inclusive Development: Emerging Issues and Perspectives in South Asia

Consultative Workshop on Social Protection and Inclusive Development: Emerging Issues and Perspectives in South Asia
Date: 23 February, 2011
Venue: Colombo, Sri Lanka

Carrying forward the mandate to facilitate advocacy and networking for an innovative and informed policy on social protection in Asia, the Social Protection in Asia (SPA) Programme along with the Institute for Human Development is organizing a Consultative Workshop on ‘Social Protection and Inclusive Development: Emerging Issues and Perspectives in South Asia’.

The workshop will be held in Colombo on 23 February, 2011, and will follow the Third Ministerial Meeting of the UNESCO Forum of Ministers in charge of Social Development from South Asia from 20-22 February.

The workshop assumes importance in view of the World Day of Social Justice being observed on 20 February as a means to get closer to the mission of achieving a “society for all” through means of complementary social protection measures.

Apart from dissemination of the findings of the SPA Synthesis Report, the meeting would also discuss the emerging perspectives on social protection and inclusive development in South Asia as well as future agenda for research and policy in this area.

SPA is a pioneering programme which aims to create a regional voice and research base for advocating innovative and informed policy on social protection for the poor and marginalized in Asia.
