Conference on Social Protection as Development Policy in Asia: The Long Term Perspective

Conference on Social Protection as Development Policy in Asia: The Long Term Perspective
Date: 27 - 29 October 2010
Venue: United Nations Conference Centre Bangkok, Thailand

As part of its mandate to facilitate advocacy and networking for an innovative and informed policy on social protection in Asia, the Social Protection in Asia (SPA) Programme is organizing a three-day conference on ‘Social Protection as Development Policy in Asia: The Long Term Perspective’.

The conference is being held in Bangkok from October 27-29 at the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC) in collaboration with the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and UN Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD).

SPA is a pioneering programme, which aims to create a regional voice and research base for advocating innovative and informed policy on social protection for the poor and marginalized in Asia.

The main objective of the meeting is to provide a platform for policy-makers, researchers and international organizations to exchange their views and experiences on social protection and its role in the development of the countries in the region. A vital part of the event will be the presentation of key findings of the SPA Programme and its synthesis report. In addition, UNRISD will also present its flagship report ‘Combating Poverty and Inequality: Structural Change, Social Policy and Politics’.
